Eyes on Oxford Optometrists
Liz Wason Dip App Sc (Optom) FACBO FCOVD
Liz Wason graduated as an optometrist in 1978 from QUT Brisbane and commenced practice on the Sunshine Coast of Queensland. After seven years she commenced her own practice in Gympie, and since then has juggled motherhood, optometry and three daughters.

She completed post-graduate studies to become a Fellow of the Australasian College of Behavioural Optometrists (ACBO) in 1996. She is an Honorary Optometric Adviser to the Parkinson’s Association of Western Australia.

Liz’s has extensive experience and special expertise in assessment of visual processing development in children with learning problems; vision problems of special needs children and adults; assessment and management of visual function and processing problems in people with acquired brain injuries, such as from stroke or head injury; and management of the ocular and visual effects of Parkinson’s disease. Liz has designed a perceptual-motor program for use in schools to aid child development.

Liz has Sports Vision Section Accreditation, and often provides vision care for amateur and professional athletes. She provided vision care for athletes and officials as a volunteer optometrist in the eye clinics at the athletes’ village, Sydney 2000 Olympics, and the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games.

Steve Leslie BOptom FACBO FCOVD
Stephen Leslie B Optom FACBO FCOVD graduated from the University of NSW, and has practised optometry in WA since 1975.

He sees general adult and children clients. He also provides specialised care of children with learning - related vision difficulties, strabismus and amblyopia, special needs children, and vision problems subsequent to acquired brain injuries following stroke or head trauma.

He provided vision care for athletes and officials as a volunteer optometrist in the eye clinic at the athletes’ village, Sydney 2000 Olympics, and 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games.

He is a life member of the Optometrists Association Australia (WA) and served 15 years on National Council as well as National President of the Optometrists Association Australia in 1991-1992. He is currently a member of the Optometry Board of Australia, responsible for registering and controlling the professional practice of optometrists.

Michael YenMichael Yen graduated in optometry from the University of Auckland in 2005. Since then he has completed the degree of Master of Optometry from the University of New South Wales, as well as his Graduate Certificate in Ocular Therapeutics, enabling him to become one of the first optometrists in Western Australia to be able to prescribe antibiotics, steroids and glaucoma drugs to treat eye diseases.

He practised optometry in Wellington for five years, where he specialised in examination and treatment of children's vision problems. Having completed his Master's degree in Optometry, he is currently involved in the process of study and examinations to become a Fellow of the Australasian College of Behavioural Optometrists (ACBO). He has recently completed Vision Therapy 1, a four day course devoted to vision therapy to treat problems of focusing, eye coordination and eye movements such as tracking.

Michael shares with Liz and Steve a passion for quality, personal optometry, and is especially interested in children's vision, contact lenses and eye diseases. His enthusiasm and experience has already added to the range of optometric services offered by Eyes on Oxford, and he has helped to reduce the waiting times for appointments which result from the high demand for our high quality vision care and treatment options.

Michael speaks Mandarin, and in his spare time plays the violin and enjoys swimming.
